Columbine, Colorado

State Flower 

The Rocky Mountain Columbine flower was discovered in 1820 by mountain climber Edwin James when he climbed Pike’s Peak. In 1899 all the school children in Colorado were allowed to vote for the state flower, and they chose the beautiful lavender and white Columbine to be the state flower. The particular colors of this flower represent Colorado:  the lavender/blue symbolizes the sky, the white symbolizes snow, and the yellow symbolizes the gold mining history of Colorado.
